Akens House

This is the home of Bonnie and
Lyle Akens. It is on the corner of Race Street and W. Front
Street. It is being run as a Bed and Breakfast, and is in the
Mitchell College District.

Entering from the parking lot through the back door is a wonderful
mini-maze of boxwoods with a bird bath in the center.

Upon entering the front door of the house, one sees this beautiful
entry foyer.

This photo shows the beautiful fireplace in the Ladies' Parlor.

This is a shot of the Gentlemen's Parlor.

And another look at the Gentlemen's Parlor. One can imagine an
old gentlemen settling in here with his pipe.

This is the King's chair in the dining room. The wallpaper in
this room is especially interesting. The paper was painted over
to resemble a very fine leather.

This shows a lovely fireplace and mantle in the Family Room.

This is a photo of a claw-foot tub in the downstairs bathroom.

Upstairs are the three bedrooms and baths that comprise the Bed and
Breakfast. This is the Mahogany Room.

The Mahogany Room features a mahogany, lion-footed, four-poster bed and
bedroom suite.

This is the Walnut Room, and just look at the beautiful massive armoire.

And another - What sweet dreams one could have in this bed.

This bright, sunny room is called the Tower Room. Located in the
tower, this room features an antique white iron bed set amid lovely
pieces of authentic white wicker. A beautiful antique Persian rug
reflects the colors in this period wallpaper.

What decadence! Imagine having this delivered to you in bed.
