Drury House

This is the home of Lori and Larry Drury.  It is being run as a Bed and Breakfast.  It is on West Front Street, and is in the Mitchell College Historic District.  A brief history, written by Lori, follows:

Our house is known as the Turner-Bunch house. It is a two-story brick veneer house with a hip roof and hipped dormer. It was built in 1917 for C.H. Turner who was an inventor of farm equipment for the farm tractor. In 1920 the house was purchased by a member of the locally prominent Bunch family. The carriage house was added to the property in 1918. The home was sold to the Statesville roofing company and used as a boarding house for their employees. It was very neglected and was sold on the 1990's to the Tillery family who did extensive repairs and remodeling.

The home was purchased by Larry and Lori Drury in Jan. 2004 with the plan to turn it into a Bed and Breakfast. It sits on a 3/4 acre wooded lot close to downtown Statesville. It has a partial basement and a walk-up attic which will be converted into our living area sometime in the future.

And the Living Room...

And the Dining Room...

One of the original claw foot tubs was still in the house, it has been refinished and now is being used in one of the downstairs bedrooms. This built in wardrobe cabinet is in the back hall. It has lots of drawers and a place to hang clothes which is very handy since the closets in homes of this age are very small. There are 4 sets of french doors still in the house. They close off the living room. Three of the rooms have hardwood floors with a darker inlay around the border. Some of the upstairs bathrooms have had the wood restored while we were in the remodeling stage.

The house now has a total of 5 bedrooms and bathrooms in the main house and 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in the carriage house. The bathrooms have been all updated with whirlpool tubs and a two person tub in our Pantin room. The parlor downstairs has a wonderful collection of paperweights which Larry has been collecting for 20 years. We named the bed and breakfast the Clichy Inn after a region in France where paperweights were made over 150 years ago.

Larry has a beautiful and extensive paperweight collection.  It is indeed a treat to see these.
